Enjoy England with Google Maps

Enjoy England

The Guardian newspaper in association with Enjoy England have produced a Google Map where users can share tips about great places to visit in England. The map also features articles about UK travel destinations from the newspaper. The map appears on both websites.

The map utilises The Guardian's new Open Platform API. The Open Platform API allows the newspaper to geotag and categorise content by timeframe (ten minutes, an hour, a day etc) and automatically feed it to the Google Map.

The Guardian content is displayed on the map with a blue 'G' map marker and user tips are displayed with a red person marker.

The map is a great showcase of The Guardian's Open Platform API. The API gives developers access to over 1 million articles going back over 10 years in addition to picture galleries, podcasts and video. I'm sure this won't be the last Google Map we see of Guardian content.
