Tracking Suppression with Google Maps

Threatened Voices

Threatened Voices is a collaborative mapping project to build a database of bloggers who have been threatened, arrested or killed for speaking out online and to draw attention to the campaigns to free them. The site uses a Google Map to show the locations of all 185 cases currently being tracked by the site.

The website includes a time-line with links that open the relevant marker on the Google Map and also loads information about the selected blogger under the map. It is also possible to sort the bloggers shown on the map by category of suppression, 'Under Arrest', 'Deceased', 'Threatened' or 'Unknown'.
