Using Google Maps as a Background Image

Google Maps Road Trip

I always like to find people using Google Maps in new and exciting ways. Google Road Trip uses a Google Map as a background image to show Marc Horowitz and Peter Baldes' proposed route from the west coast of the USA to the east coast.

Using a static image of the route as a background to their trip's website works surprisingly well. If the guys update it regularly it should prove pretty useful to those who want to follow their progress.

The site also includes the latest Tweets about their journey from Marc and Peter and what looks like a live video feed from Ustream (off-air as I write).

Hey, this is Pete from googlemapsroadtrip.com

Marc and I are leaving LA on monday, august 10th around 3, or whenever he gets out of real traffic court. The whole trip will captured from our desktops(who ever is "driving" at the time) and streamed to that video posted on the blog. We will be virtually driving cross country in a google maps window, zoomed in all the way, in real time... our voices will also be recorded. Come join us on the 10th!
